Title: Monty Python
Post by: Kilman on October 21, 2009, 12:21:27 AM
... a somewhat DNA related topic...

FYI - Sundance Channel is running a new 6 part (hour long each part) Monty Python documentary this week (40th anniversary of MP).  They are already a couple parts in, but are replaying the whole thing starting this Saturday.  I've only watched the beginning of the first one due to a lack of time, but am collecting them on DVR for future watching.  Looked good so far.  Sundance is also running several Python movies.  I don't know if Adams will be mentioned in the documentary.

I've never watched a MP show except Holy Grail.

The show is on IFC rather than Sundance (oops) and the replays are going on at a rate of 1 episode per week.  I watched 5 of 6 parts of the documentary (so far) and highly recommend it to Python fans.  It is called "Monty Python: Almost the Truth (The Lawyers Cut)"

In interesting article by Terry Jones (of Monty Python & Starship Titanic):

Terry Jones remembers Douglas Adams, 'the last of the Pythons'

Yeah, it's quite a nice article. I should probably say something more specific, but I read it last night and then couldn't post immediately afterward, so if I had something specific to say, I forgot it.

In case you missed it the first time around, the above mentioned Monty Python documentary is being re-aired on IFC (Independent Film Channel) on Sunday, August 1st.  All six hour-long episodes will be run consecutively on that day starting at 10am (Mountain Time).

But...  This is only what the Directv guide is telling me.  The IFC web site does not list this on the schedule.  I suspect IFC added this to the schedule recently as a reaction to the show getting 2 Emmy nominations, but then forgot to change their online schedule.

IFC has updated their web site so that it now agrees with directv.  In other words, the show will go on.  Definitely worth watching if you are a Monty Python fan.

Not the full Monty Python, but my local PBS is running Fawlty Towers over the next few weeks.  Your PBS may or may not be doing the same.  Sorry, but you missed the first episode (unless your PBS starts it on a different date), but the second episode is on tonight (10pm here in MT).  It looks like they will be running several each week (12 episodes were made).  If you are not familiar with the series, it features John Cleese as an innkeeper - very funny.
