Title: NASA mission quotes DNA
Post by: Kilman on November 24, 2009, 05:25:11 PM
I thought this was a nice touch.  The NASA LCROSS mission that crashed into the moon (in order to see if water could be detected in the impact ejecta) sent a twitter feed as it approached the moon.

“And what's this thing coming toward me very fast? So big and flat and round,

it needs a big wide sounding name like 'Ow', 'Ownge', 'Round', 'Ground'!”

“That's it! Ground! Ha! I wonder if it'll be friends with me?”

I have wondered if any intelligent alien beings happened to be monitoring the LCROSS mission and just what they thought about that last message.

I was wondering if the new Mars Curiosity Rover landing would have any Hitchhiker's reference (without the crashing into the planet bit), and sure enough...

Cruise stage separation complete. So long & thanks for all the navigation. 17 minutes to Mars! #MSL

Obviously not at as funny or as fitting as the LCROSS one, but still good to see.
