Title: Towel Day 2011
Post by: Kilman on May 24, 2011, 01:45:44 AM
Greetings fellow Hitchhikers!

This will be the 11th Towel Day!  Although it is still another 28 hours before Towel Day arrives here in my time zone, Towel Day gets underway in 8 hours on Christmas Island.  So we will be looking forward to Towel Day pictures from there shortly.   ::)

Link your Towel Day 2011 pictures here.  If you are not sure how, see the Towel Day Picture FAQs thread.

Photographic evidence that local residents of Christmas Island are indeed celebrating Towel Day:

Yes, Towel Day is here for some as the sun has risen on Kiritimati, aka “Christmas Island”, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Towel Day is also here (pre-sunrise) for Australia, Japan, Korea, Philippines, and parts of China, etc…

Happy Towel Day everyone!

Also used 42pt font (stealing the idea from lewot) and a brown color since that is my towel color today.  And yes, it is the newest looking towel in the house.

It is dawn here in Colorado, and Towel Day everywhere (except Christmas Island and New Zealand where Towel Day just ended).

Time to shower and breakfast, then I have to take the eldest two out for driving lessons.  Perhaps if I hide behind my towel I won't have to see all the things we nearly crash into.  Will post pictures as soon as I have some.

The twins and I made a towel art video (but we cheated and made it last night): http://youtu.be/6x773UXN1I4 (http://youtu.be/6x773UXN1I4)  Now we're getting ready for the day- going out to brunch and to piano lessons. Our towels are having a busy day!  :D

Lol - I liked the snail, but some of it looked suspiciously like towels waiting to be put in the laundry.

At home in the library with signed copies of Adams books.  Note the cobwebs on the little statue.  I think cobwebs are a legitimate form of interior decorating.

Wow, your dog looks very similar to ours. But ours is a boy.

I did take pictures, but I left the little cable to transfer them from my camera to the computer at home (as opposed to at college, which is where I am). But I don't have classes on Fridays, so I can have the pictures up by tomorrow, I promise.

I agree, they do. However, towels make good dust cloths.

I hate cables. I'm always losing the one I need for the particular device I need it for and they aren't interchangeable. Reminds of of what Douglas Adams wrote about "dongly things" except I think he was talking about the plugs you need for things if you travel to different countries. But never mind, it's the same problem, isn't it?

That's why, with video games, they've moved to a lot of wireless stuff. But I guess the problem is that, in order for a camera to wirelessly connect to a computer, every kind of computer would have to be able to recognize every kind of camera. I think that must be why they still need a cable. Then again, I think at has to do with "drivers"... I don't know. But I'll have pictures tomorrow.

Today I was walking around with my sister (we got so board we had a towel fight every few minutes).  As we walked I saw a woman and I thought of last year’s stranger with towel, so I went up to her, asked her if she could hold my towel while I take a picture, she took it, I took a picture of her and afterwards me and my sister explained what stranger with towel is and Towel Day.

I see you noticed that I also use dust in my interior decorating.  Fortunately my library is my library and neither wife nor kids are permitted to clean it.

Here is some towelgami that my sister and I did.  All the pink/tan ones are mine and all the rainbow/green ones are hers.

Here are some snails.

Here are some swans.

Here are some ducks.

Here are some baby birds in a nest.

And finally, here are some worms on rocks.

For the swan and the snail we followed some directions but the rest we made by ourselves.

Me in my ship's cabin:

I had a couple more, but apparently they're too big to upload.

I always shrink my photos at photobucket.

I've used Photobucket before, but I always forget my password. I could use a program to shrink them, but there's really only one more that's good. It was a fun Towel Day, though.

I've used Photobucket before, but I always forget my password.

I hate passwords. I want a chip in my wrist so I can just scan my arm on the computer, the ATM machine, whatever- so I don't have to remember passwords, SS#, or any other numbers or passwords ever again. We chipped the cat. Why can't we chip me?  ::)

Kind of like Random's wrist thing, huh? It's interesting how things that sound like such good ideas tend to have unforeseen implications. My dad was saying something one time about the idea of putting chips in grocery items (I guess it had some advantage over barcodes that I can't remember), and how it could go bad, for example, someone could buy the scanning device, and they would be able to drive by your house and find out all of the items you had in your fridge. If this were applied to things other than food, it would give them a good idea of which house to rob.

I guess maybe the disadvantage of having a chip in yourself might be people being able to track you down? As opposed to stealing it, which would be kinda difficult, especially if you don't want to be noticed.

Guess I went on a bit of a tangent there :P

Hey, everybody loves a good science fictiony, creepy, dysfunctional, utopian future.

Hmm, what if I WANT to be tracked down or followed around?  ;D

I was just talking about this sort of thing with my sister- putting a tracking device in our kids so we could find them if they were lost or kidnapped. She thought it was freaky sounding and pointed out that if this was standard, then kidnappers would know about them and slice out the devices. Not good, to say the least.

Obviously you would want to, that is why it is called utopia!
