Title: Towel Day 2013 plans
Post by: Kilman on March 13, 2013, 04:14:22 PM
How are plans shaping up for Towel Day 2013?

I am not sure yet, but I may get stuck going to a wedding.  The towel could be extra awkward considering these are some hardcore Catholics who might very likely be having the ceremony in Latin.  Not that I don't want to display my towel where it stands out awkwardly (because I actually enjoy that, and this would be perfect), but I am not sure I want to spend Towel Day with marginal acquaintances that will have no appreciation for the holiday.  I will keep you updated when I find out for sure.

What are your plans?

[edit - note that by 'hardcore Catholics' I do not mean to imply anything negative.  My point is that they are very serious minded and likely won't be pleased with my towel.]

Well, I might actually be getting a job, which is kind of like Marvin having a good day--but I don't know what the hours will be yet, so I don't know whether I'll be working on Towel Day or not. I think it does happen to be the kind of job where the towel would get in the way--depending on which tasks I'm doing at the time--but if that ends up being the case, I'll try to at least bring it along in the car or something, maybe picnic on it for lunch. If I don't have to work that day, then I'll probably be in school, so I should be able to wear it around campus again. Although it might also get in the way of science labs which I've started taking, but I should be able to just bring it in and leave it on my chair instead of actually wearing it during the experiments.

I have literally no money, though, so unless I earn a bunch from the job, I won't be able to travel anywhere.

Kilman, maybe you could wear a towel as a tie.  ;)

I have a tea date with a group of other mom friends on Towel Day this year. They won't mind my towel at all. There's even a good chance that two of them will have their towels too, as they are fans too! :)

Looks like I'm going to a wedding.  My sister is going to be there so that's actually the main reason that I'm going.  But I'm bringing my towel with me, I just wont wear it on my shoulder during the mass. :)  Otherwise I'm wearing it.

LOL  That's great. I guess for a wedding you must bring your nicest towel.  ;D

Saved by the towel.  ;D  It looks like I will not be going to the wedding, in part because various forces (one of which I am married to) have made it clear that the towel is not invited.  So, my towel and I will be elsewhere - having fun.  I’m looking into having a party, complete with towels, barbeque, alcohol and live music.

I'm going to conceal my towel so my mom wont know I brought it until we're out of the church. ;)

It looks like the day itself will fall on a weekend, so I won't have to worry about towels not being allowed at my new job thingy. I might still picnic on it, though.

The outdoor Towel Day party is on!  :D

I need to finalize the location (looking at 2 options depending on whether we have live music).  There will be food, drink, entertainment of some sort (even if it turns out to be open mic Vogon poetry readings), games and other mayhem.  I am currently in the brainstorming phase of figuring out what other fun things might be going on.  Feel free to make suggestions.  At this point, only local (Colorado Springs area) Towel Day enthusiasts are expected to attend, but if anyone is interested, let me know.

Shocking as it may seem, some people do not have the spirit of Towel Day in their hearts.  Several invitees RSVP’d with “not interested” (modern day version of humbug).  They have been warned of their potential fate:

Still, the party goes on.  Perhaps some of the strags will be reformed by visits from the Ghosts of Towel Day Past, Towel Day Present and Towel Day Yet to Come (minor hint on the topic of my upcoming Amazing Stories piece for Towel Day – posts Friday at the magazine’s website).

But if you picnic in the park, won't if feel like going to work on your day off?

Not to be a downer, but I will unfortunately be going to my oldest sisters funeral.   :'(  She passed away earlier this week.  In one way it is very sad, but I don't think there could be a better day to hold the service than towel day.  I'm sure she would see the irony in it and have a good laugh!  We both had the same taste in books and movies.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister  :'(

During our Towel Day party tomorrow, we will pause and raise our towels in a farewell salute.  I have many siblings (13).  One is gone already.  Fortunately (for me because I don't want to go to all their funerals) I am probably near the front of the exit line (I am one of the oldest, and also a smoker).

We've added a flying contest - throwing ourselves at the ground and missing (person who misses by the greatest distance wins).  This particular game does not start until later in the party when we have had enough alcohol to make us more prone to missing things.

It's been a long day, but I wanted to get in before midnight to say Happy Towel Day to everyone!

Thanks Donna. ;) I ended up doing completely different things than planned, but it was quite eventful. And if that isn't what interstellar hitchhiking is about, then it isn't.

Since I don't remember hitting the ground during the party yesterday, it is probably safe to assume that I flew successfully.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Donna. My thoughts and prayers are with you.  :'(

On Towel Day I brought my towel --the little 42 one I won at that contest-- with me everywhere. I brought my parents grocery shopping and out to coffee. It came in handy when my dad spilled his mocha on me!  :D  I even brought it to Confession and to Mass (tucked inside my purse).
