This time I did not have to wake you up, and surprisingly I did not wake up from the loud bangings and clangings next to my room.

Back from my first year of college, everything around the house seems to have turned upside down and nothing is the same; except the one thing I could come home to and recognize: the usual Towel Day picture spot where the sacred Towel Day Tree used to be.  We had to cut it down or risk being sued for letting plant life grow wild and fall over some day on somebody.

Me showing my college pride, dad with the same towel that he's had every year, Marie (who is about to get married next summer!), and Colleen with Artemis.  The numbers are depleting every year...

My May Scide Splitters just happened to fall on Towel Day, so I broke down and read The Salmon of Doubt for the review (some years back I mentioned that I was saving The Salmon of Doubt, not wanting there to be no more new Adams for me to read).  It took 14 years from Long Dark Tea-Time to The Salmon of Doubt, and other 14 years before I read Salmon.   And my post happened to be scheduled for Towel Day.  Any to bring all manor of coincidence together for the occasion, my water heater stopped working as I wrote the review (3 years ago, the water heater broke as I was trying to write a Towel Day blog for Amazing Stories).  It's all very interconnected, as Dirk would say.  Anyway, here is the review:

I am starting to see a connection between Towel Day and water heaters.  Three years ago, my water heater broke right before Towel Day as I was trying to meet a deadline for an Amazing Stories article (read that story here: http://amazingstoriesmag.com/2013/05/the-ghost-of-towel-day-yet-to-come-a-true-story-sort-of/).  Then last night, as I was trying to finish a review of The Salmon of Doubt for my blog at Amazing Stories (to be posted on Towel Day - http://amazingstoriesmag.com/2016/05/scide-splitters-salmon-doubt-douglas-adams/), the pilot light went out on the water heater and I spent five hours trying to get it back on (hence my sleeping in this morning and having no pictures yet - not to worry, they will come, after I get a nice hot shower).  What is the connection between Towel Day & my water heater problems?  Sounds like a case for Dirk Gently.

Happy Towel Day!

Yes, it is already Towel Day in the Far East.  Don't forget your towel today (or tomorrow, depending on where you are right now).  Feel free to post your Towel Day pictures or say hello.  There are many Towel Day events and contests going on all around the world, so take a look around and enjoy.

It looks like this is going to happen.  BBC America plans to broadcast 8 1-hour episodes starting this fall (2016).
Cast includes - Samuel Barnett, Elijah Wood, Hannah Marks
From what I can tell, don't expect this to follow the books very closely.  Hopefully they can at least capture the spirit of Dirk Gently.

Creative Genius / Northern Colorado Writers Workshop
« Last post by Kilman on April 27, 2016, 05:20:18 PM »
I am excited to announce that I have been accepted into the Northern Colorado Writers Workshop.  This is an ongoing writer’s group that I hope will help me hone my writing skills.  To quote Wikipedia, “The Northern Colorado Writers Workshop is an invitation-only, non-profit writing workshop founded in 1972 by Edward Bryant. The writing genres of its members include mainly science fiction, fantasy, horror, and mystery. Membership in the workshop is generally limited to professional and near-professional writers, and includes a number of Hugo, Nebula, Bram Stoker, International Horror Guild, and World Fantasy Award winners.

I shouldn’t drop names, but what the hell - also from Wikipedia, “...has produced a number of notable writers, including Steve Rasnic Tem, Melanie Tem, John Dunning, Wil McCarthy, Bruce Holland Rogers, Dan Simmons, and Connie Willis.”

Did I mention that I am excited!
