Amazing Stories
« on: February 13, 2013, 01:33:18 AM »
Amazing Stories is back – and I am one of their official bloggers!

http://amazingstoriesmag.com/

Amazing Stories needs no introduction for the serious science fiction fan, but I will throw out a little background for those who don’t know what it is.  Amazing Stories was the first true science fiction magazine.  Started in 1926 by Hugo Gernsback (think Hugo Award), the magazine debuted many of the field's most celebrated authors including Isaac Asimov, Ursula K. Le Guin and Roger Zelazny.

In preparation for sending my novel out to agents, I’ve been reading up on the current state of the industry and keep running into the advice that I should develop an online/social media presence.  I’d been procrastinating it for some time when I saw the press release for Amazing’s re-launch.  While perusing their content, I stumbled across their call for bloggers and decided it was time to take the plunge.  Incidentally, they still have room for more bloggers, see the submissions page for details:
http://amazingstoriesmag.com/info/submissions/

You will have to propose a topic and describe your background or experience in the subject.  Be prepared to provide writing samples/links.

The niche I chose for my blog is humorous science fiction reviews.  The series will be called Scide Splitters: Reviews in Humorous Science Fiction.  I’m not sure what day my first blog will appear online (already submitted), but I’ll post an update at that time.

My contributors page is: http://amazingstoriesmag.com/authors/david-kilman/

Yes, that is a Towelday picture on my profile page.  You will also notice a towelday.net ad below.  Towelday ads will also appear on my blog entries and on a rotating basis around the site.  So maybe we will see a few new faces around here in the near future.

Wow, that's all really cool. I'll try to remember to check your blog once in a while. I don't think I have it in me to do one myself, though. I'm assuming there are deadlines, but even if there aren't, I would still fail to meet them.

My next review covers a new, hot off the press (the book will not be out in stores until Tuesday), novel by British SF/F humorist Tom Holt.

My May Scide Splitters review is The Flying Sorcerers by David Gerrold & Larry Niven:

I am contemplating whether to run my Towel Day post at Amazing Stories on May 24th or 25th.  Since the publishing time is 8am MT, half the world will be on the tail end of Towel Day by the time it gets posted.  Plus the 24th might work better as a reminder so people won't forget their towels.

Thanks!  I was hoping it would bring a few more visitors here, but I guess we will have to wait and see - still 24 hours of Towel Day left on the West coast.

Thanks, though it doesn’t seem to have made any impact on visitors.  I just noticed the other day (Towel Day actually) that the Douglas Adams Continuum is closing shop.  You’d have thought we might have got a few of their refugees, even if just the useless third, the hairdressers, management consultants, telephone sanitizers and the like.
