Lord of the Rings

Kilman:
Knowing VogonGirl's fondness for the Lord of the Rings, and her dislike of the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies, I thought she might enjoy knowing that Christopher Tolkien doesn't like them either:

Christopher Tolkien broke a decades long silence for this interview.  A couple of telling excerpts:

"They eviscerated [The Lord of the Rings] by making it an action movie for young people aged 15 to 25."

"Tolkien has become a monster, devoured by his own popularity and absorbed into the absurdity of our time. The chasm between the beauty and seriousness of the work, and what it has become, has overwhelmed me. The commercialization has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing. There is only one solution for me: to turn my head away."

VogonGirl:
The thing that most upsets me now, are those stupid comments on the article. >:(  I applaud Thomas John Mosbo for making a perfect statement about the horrid movies.  And I really hate the other comments that say "get with the time" "changes must be made".  *sigh* V.V

Kilman:
No surprise, Tolkien wrote about those kinds of people in the Hobbit.  I think he called them Trolls.

LOL yep.

Teatime:
Maybe Tolkien was right when he wrote "In human art Fantasy is a thing best left to words, to true literature."
